Hello, my name is Nicholas Saunders. I grew up in Manchester, UK, and now live in Hackney, London. My work sits between classic and contemporary, and I primarily create digitally on a tablet, often bringing in scanned old textures and printmaking offcuts.

 

I draw a lot from mid-century design aesthetics, and detail is a big part of what makes my style feel like mine. I’m also passionate about mental health awareness, and many of my personal projects explore my experience of psychosis, creativity, and using art as a way to process and create something positive out of a negative experience.

 

I was recently selected by dPICTUS to exhibit a storybook at The Bologna Children’s Book Fair, where I also exhibited in 2026. Earlier this year, I created interactive animations for the Zayed National Museum in Abu Dhabi, working closely with Squint Opera over three months and designing live at full scale on LED backlit screens.

 

I have a BA (Hons) in Graphic Design, and I approach every brief collaboratively, making sure expectations are clear from the start. Clients often connect with the scale, atmosphere, colour, humour, and sophistication in my work, as well as its sense of familiarity and honesty.

 

I’ve always kept a sketchbook close because ideas can come from anywhere, often in the middle of the night. I usually begin with words and small thumbnails, then build from there, filling my sketchbooks with inspiration pictures, artists, poems, and sketches. Inspiration is really everywhere for me, and my experience of psychosis has only deepened how much I notice in the world around me.
